Remember to register to vote or request your absentee ballot for the 2020 election

Under the U.S. Constitution, every U.S. citizen has the right to vote. Every voter must have the opportunity to register and vote whether that is in person or by absentee in any election that they are eligible. To vote in U.S. elections, Coast Guard members and their eligible dependents must be registered in their state of legal residence.

Coast Guard celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
Sept. 21, 2020

Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes and celebrates the contributions that Americans who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Spanish-speaking nations of the Caribbean have made to American society and culture. The observance started in 1968 when Congress authorized the president to issue an annual proclamation designating National Hispanic Heritage Week. Just two decades later, lawmakers expanded it to a month-long celebration, stretching from September 15 to October 15.

Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Isa Mariano discusses her experience helping a woman who was contemplating suicide from the Golden Gate Bridge, mid-June 2020. Mariano talked with the woman, called her loved ones and with the help of a good Samaritan, brought the woman away from the ledge before bridge authorities arrived on scene to safely escort the woman from Golden Gate.

Military Spouse Corporate Career Network
This non-profit organization has assisted more than 55,000 people find a new job. Their free employment training programs and job placement services are available to military-affiliated spouses, retired military spouses, and caregivers of wounded war heroes.

Office of Veterans Business Development – under the Small Business Administration
Military spouses make great entrepreneurs, and small business ownership can be a flexible vocation that supports a military career. The administration supports spouses and business owners by offering counseling and training, access to capital, and disaster assistance.

Boots to Business (B2B) is an entrepreneurial education and training program offered by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) as part of the Department of Defense Transition Assistance Program (TAP). The course provides an overview of entrepreneurship and applicable business ownership fundamentals. Active Duty Service members (including National Guard and Reserve), Veterans of all eras, and spouses are eligible to participate.

Coast Guard Legal Assistance
Coast Guard legal assistance provide advice and counseling regarding personal legal issues for service members, dependents and retirees at no-cost. These issues may involve family law, estate planning, consumer law, landlord-tenant relations, immigration or many other topics.
