Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Isa Mariano discusses her experience helping a woman who was contemplating suicide from the Golden Gate Bridge, mid-June 2020. Mariano talked with the woman, called her loved ones and with the help of a good Samaritan, brought the woman away from the ledge before bridge authorities arrived on scene to safely escort the woman from Golden Gate.

Wellness Wednesday Sneak Peek: Determining Vital Workforce Emergency Assistance

Wellness Wednesday’s guests today include Master Chief Anthony Martinez, Command Master Chief of Sector Northern New England, Christopher James, and Ms. Leslie Cardona, who will provide guidance and a real-world example on determining when a Coast Guard member is in need of help, how to address their challenges and to which resources to connect them. The conversation will take place today from 3-4 p.m. EDT.

Veteran's Wellness Resources

TRICARE
TRICARE is the health care program for active duty and reserve Coast Guard service members, retirees and their families. Visit the website to find a plan or doctor or to learn about costs.

TRICARE Express Scripts Pharmacy
Use Express Scripts to sign-up for your medication deliveries and refills of your medicine subscriptions, or manage their maintenance.

Dental Coverage
Dental coverage is separate from TRICARE’s medical coverage. Your dental coverage is based on who you are (active duty member or family member, reservist or family member, retired service member and family, or survivor).

Vision Coverage
As a retiree, your family members may enroll in a vision plan through TRICARE vision coverage.

The U.S. Family Health Plan
The U.S. Family Health Plan, contracted under TRICARE, allows retirees and eligible military beneficiaries to enroll for services through participating non-profit health plans in different regions.

The Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP)
A voluntary, enrollee-pay-all dental and vision program available to Federal employees and annuitants, certain retired uniformed service members, and active duty family members.

Federal Employees Health Benefit (FEHB)
For retired military and federal annuitants who retired under either the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS), Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS), or other retirement system for employees of the federal government, as well as their survivors.

TRICARE Mental Health Care
Learn how to access therapy, counseling, substance use support and more.

TRICARE ECHO
This program offers benefits that include training, respite care, home care, technology devices and more, and includes retired service members and their families. Some of the services may be cost-shared under ECHO or your TRICARE program—it will be determined by your qualifying condition.

Coast Guard’s Sea Legs Website
Sea Legs in an online resource that includes information relevant to retirees like healthcare coverage and other benefits. This is also a great resource for active duty dependents.

Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors
Tragedy Assistance Program website, TAPS, provides comfort, care and resources to all those grieving the death of a military loved one. The website provides services for grief counseling, and the ability to connect with others who are also grieving the loss of a military loved-one.

Fisher House Foundation
This foundation provides comfortable lodging, free-of-charge, that military and veteran families can stay in while their loved one is in the hospital. They also offer a variety of other programs to support the military community.

Family Assistance During Loss of Service Family Member
If a Coast Guard member becomes critically ill, injured or has fallen in the line of duty, the Fallen Heroes Fund is able to provide some financial support to family members during their difficult time.

The foundation’s programs assists families financially or otherwise, during times of tragedy and disaster. The Coast Guard Foundation is committed to ensuring all Coast Guard members and families have the resources they need to build resilience throughout their lives.

Military Crisis Line
The Military Crisis Line is staffed by caring, qualified responders—many of whom are veterans themselves. They understand specific challenges that military members, their dependents, and their loved ones experience in the line of serving their country.
