Child Care

The Coast Guard provides several options to support families needing care for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years (6th grade).

Option 1: DoD or USCG child development centers (CDCs)

Coast Guard families - both civilians and members - have access to child care centers and infant and toddler programs at military bases, as well as, at other sites throughout the nation.

Option 2: Coast Guard Family Child Care Home Program

The Family Child Care Home Program has two purposes: to create a business opportunity for Coast Guard spouses/legal-married partners, and to provide safe and dependable child care for Team Coast Guard. Family Child Care providers are spouses or legal married partners of active duty Coast Guard members. The program is available to Coast Guard and DoD active duty, reservists and retirees, as well as civil service employees.

Option 3: Fee assistance

Military members can apply to the Coast Guard Child Care Fee Assistance (CCFA) program to offset the cost of a private childcare provider. The Coast Guard is aware that child care facilities are not everyone’s first preference. If you prefer to place your children in certified home child care environments, you can either search for licensed Coast Guard FCC homes in your area or you can apply to become a provider yourself.

  • Your provider must have a state license and be in good standing. You can search for a licensed provider through Childcare Aware.
  • The fee assistance is paid to the provider after the sponsor pays the total monthly child care fee, and is not paid in advance.
  • Visit the CCFA website to learn more or enroll.
