The Long Blue Line: Omitted — Coast Guard’s forgotten evacuation of typhoon-ravaged Wake Island 55 years ago! 

Being the first aircraft to arrive, the C-130 landed about 11:00 a.m. Wake Island time or just over 12 hours following the storm’s passage.

2023 Inspirational Award Winners

The eight award winners each displayed expertise in their field and rousing leadership of their teams.

In January 2023, crews aboard an over-the-horizon boat from Maritime Safety and Security Team San Francisco evaluate a proposed boat crew communications system supporting the Research and Development Center, Defense Innovation Unit and C5I Service Center Team, who won the Commander Joel Magnussen Innovation Award for Management.

Recipients pioneered solutions that improve Coast Guard operations and service readiness – just like the legendary Coast Guard innovator whose “chain stopper” dramatically improved the safety of buoy tending operations and for whom these awards are named.
