USCG officer, civilian, named International Emergency Managers of the Year

By MyCG Staff

Lt. Cmdr. Amanda Le Monde and Ms. Jennifer Amaral received international awards for their work as emergency managers.

The International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) selected LeMonde as the Uniformed Emergency Manager of the Year, and Amaral was named Civilian Emergency Manager of the Year.

Le Monde leads a 61 member active duty and reserve deployable specialized force for the Pacific Strike Team. She oversees all training, morale, wellness, readiness, safety, and coordinates all administrative requirements necessary to surge technical and incident management support for oil spills, weapons of mass destruction incidents, hazardous material emergency responses, natural disasters, and exercises. She provides this support directly to Coast Guard, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Defense (DoD), and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) incident commanders across 10 U.S. states, five Coast Guard districts, and three EPA/FEMA Regions.

Amaral oversees all emergency management, environmental response, readiness, and incident management strategic planning direction for Coast Guard units in the Pacific Area. She drives policy developments to enhance response training and capability, ensuring operational readiness for oil spill response, transportation security incidents, severe weather, pandemic, and other crisis response events for the Coast Guard. She is an expert at coordinated exercise facilitation and joint crisis response, as well as fostering cooperative relationships with federal, state, local government agencies, and port partners.

IAEM’s mission is to advance the profession by promoting the principles of emergency management and serve its members by providing information, networking and professional development opportunities.

Le Monde and Amaral will be honored during IAEM’s annual conference scheduled to be held virtually Nov. 13-18.
