Civilians can now use American Forces Travel

Here’s some big news for all Coast Guard civilians. You can now use American Forces Travel!

American Forces Travel (AFT) offers member-exclusive rates for more than 70,000 hotels worldwide, major car rental brands, travel packages, cruise vacations and event tickets.

The travel site is now available to both GS and non-appropriated fund employees, thanks to the Community Services Command’s Morale, Well-Being and Recreation (MWR) team, which partnered with the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) and the other Department of Defense MWR programs.

“We are leaning forward to maximize non-pay benefits for the entire Coast Guard family,” said Rear Adm. Shannon Gilreath, commander, Personnel Service Center, which includes Community Services Command.

AFT has some great advantages:

  • Save up to 60 percent off hotels
  • Save up to 80 percent off cruises
  • Trip-planning tools with 24/7 support
  • No booking fee for flights
  • Reduced fees for flight reservation changes
  • Free cancellation on post-paid cars

AFT also offers a best price guarantee, so if you find a lower price for the same product within 24 hours of making the reservation, they will refund 100% of the price difference.

AFT was initially available to active duty and reserve military members, eligible family members, and retirees who are eligible to use MWR programs. The Coast Guard Auxiliary was later authorized access. Now, the entire Coast Guard family is coming aboard to this great program.

The last phase of this effort will let our Department of Homeland Security colleagues use American Forces Travel. This phase will likely be completed in early 2021.

All eligible patrons are highly encouraged to consider using AFT for leisure travel plans, since a portion of all bookings goes back to support military quality of life programs in the form of commissions. The Community Services Command has received and distributed over $40,000 in commissions to the base where the purchaser is registered. Your purchases will help fund local MWR events that support the readiness, retention, and resiliency of the Coast Guard family!
