Solicitation: Share your New Year's Day log entries

'Twas the week before New Year's, when all through HQA holiday tree at Coast Guard headquarters, Dec. 21, 2020.

Our cubeland was empty, and our hearts a bit blue.

The stockings were hung and our desks strung with lights

But it didn't feel like Christmas - this just wasn't right.

Our trees were all hung with face masks and glitter

But the pandemic was making us all feel a bit bitter

That's when your MyCG team had a sudden moment of glee

When we realized that Christmas is not about trees

It's about friends and family and a country that's free

Thanks to our Coasties on land and at sea

As we slowly and surely broke out of our fog

We thought of our shipmates writing their NYE logs

Farewell 2020, hello the new year

Please send us your logs, and help us spread cheer.

Written in all-caps, the logs are ordinary every day of the year except one – New Year’s Eve.  For this one day, the midnight log entry at a Coast Guard unit takes on a life of its own.

Are you feeling creative? MyCG is hosting a New Year's log entry competition.  Please send your unit's log to mycg@uscg.mil.

Submissions are due NLT 1600PST 04JAN.  We will spotlight all the best ones, so be sure to include the author's name so we can reach back.

Happy writing!
