Dear Coast Guard Family: Help impact future COLA rates

By Rachel Conley, MyCG Columnist

Pay and benefits are of significant importance to military members and families. Financial related concerns are often considered a top lifestyle stressor.

By completing the 2021 Continental U.S. (CONUS) Living Pattern Survey (LPS), you can help positively affect future COLA rates – and potentially put more money in your family’s pocket.

The cost-of-living allowance in the Continental United States (CONUS COLA) provides compensation to help offset increased non-housing expenses in high-cost areas.  (Housing and housing-related costs are considered part of basic allowance for housing.)

Coast Guard participation in the Living Pattern Survey is imperative to help ensure that the Department of Defense (DoD) has the necessary data to accurately compute COLA for the next three years - this is especially important if you live in an area where the DoD does not have a significant presence.

Eligibility:

All active duty members (including reserve members on long-term active duty) or their spouses assigned to a CONUS permanent duty station for three months or more are strongly encouraged to participate.

Only one survey per household should be submitted (ideally by the primary shopper).

How to Participate:

This quick and easy survey is your only opportunity to influence CONUS COLA rates!  Visit the survey website before March 31st, 2021, to ensure your feedback is received.
