Join the Coast Guard's first Virtual Education Fair, March 10-11

All Coast Guard personnel and their family members are invited to the first Coast Guard-wide education fair to be held online, with over 20 colleges and universities available to explore, presenting hundreds of college degree and academic certificate programs.

The event will take place Wednesday, Mar. 10 and Thursday, Mar. 11, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST.

The colleges in attendance appeal to a military affiliated student, offering online programs, and military tuition discounts at or near the CG Tuition Assistance (TA) cap of $250 per credit hour. Each of the colleges have signed a DoD Memorandum making them eligible to receive military TA funding.

The virtual venue is designed browse virtual information booths to learn about the history of the institution, academic programs, student services, and up-front tuition costs.  The virtual environment offers the option to browse without interaction, or engage with knowledgeable college representatives who will be at the ready to provide information quickly in a real-time text chat.

A team of CG Education Services Officers (ESOs), led by Ms. Shelby Dill, joined forces to offer this event.

Coast Guard members and their family members will have ESOs available to respond real time in a virtual ESO booth. You can learn about the service’s education benefits, the tuition assistance process, and the potential value of credit recommendations listed on the Joint Service Transcripts (JSTs). You can also engage in a real-time advising session with an ESO to discuss programs and professional development goals.

Two academic support programs will be featured. The Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) and Tutor.com will have booths at the fair.

DANTES offers numerous programs that include funding for college entrance exams and college credit exams, free online academic skills training, and the Troops to Teachers Program.

Through Tutor.com students have access to live, expert tutors 24/7. These tutors have subject matter expertise in over 100 academic areas. Students can work with a tutor in real time or upload a document or homework problem and receive feedback within 24 hours.
