Leader of the Week: Chief Petty Officer Pedro Reyes

By From Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard’s Facebook page

This is our last Deckplate Leader of the Week! We are expanding the program to all active duty, reserve, and civilians!

This last nomination comes from Petty Officer 3rd Class Joe Chang, a marine science technician based out of U.S. Coast Guard New York currently on Title 10 Orders in Brooklyn, New York as part of the Covid-19 Vaccination roll out. Chang reached out to nominate his team leader, Chief Petty Officer Pedro Reyes, also a marine science technician!

Reyes is a great leader for several reasons, the first of which is his attitude. Chang says that Reyes never has one complaint or any negativity coming from him. He always puts the needs of his team before his own, and he gives his subordinates the room for responsibility with little to no micromanaging.

Reyes’ leadership style creates loyalty and admiration, by showing that no task is too big or too small for him to dive right into, and Chang says he is proud to serve alongside him.

“Serving the community has been a privilege, but my awesome team of Coast Guard Reservists, led by such a stand up chief, has made my deployment that much better,” Chang said.

We couldn’t think of a better way to end out #DeckPlate Leader of the Week!
