Communication Evolution: DIPS Sets Sail Across the Coast Guard

By Jason Allred MyCG Web Editor

Imagine you’re expecting an urgent call from the detailer, a vendor, or a support contractor, but need to go offsite or are teleworking. How would it feel if you could answer those important phone calls anywhere as long as you were signed into DoD365 Teams?
We are pleased to introduce the DoD Integrated Phone System (DIPS), which is accessible on your CG workstation, your government-issued Intune enabled phone or tablet, and your personal computer via DoD365 Online. A wide range of functionality is included, such as the ability to transfer, park, forward automatically, and record voice mail messages. The future of CG calling will be powered by a digital infrastructure without the need of a traditional "phone." Cutters, don't worry, you get access too!
Our telephone infrastructure will be completely changed in a multidisciplinary, highly complex modernization effort. You can review CIO Note 009/23 and CIO Note 009/23 Supplemental - Telephone System Modernization (CaC required) for more details and amplifying information.

Timelines for DIPS

By the end of August every member of the workforce will receive a unique phone number within DoD365 Teams as part of the DoD Integrated Phone System (DIPS) that will stay with you throughout your Coast Guard career.  With this new number, you will have a single point of contact for all communication needs; no matter how many times you transfer to a different unit.

Positive feedback

The C5ISC tested the DIPS capability with 2,500 members across diverse operational communities. Overall, there was a positive response. Customer feedback can be summarized as follows:

“Great improvement, will help the cutter crews in so many ways (logistics, calls home, etc.)!” - Cutter customer

“Internal & external calls have been flawless.” - Shore customer

What's next?

It is not necessary for customers to take any action currently. After DIPS is activated, customers will receive an email notification informing them of their individual DIPS number, FAQs, guidance, and resources for providing feedback and receiving support.

Employees are encouraged to submit feedback through this form TEAMS DIPS Feedback Form
