The Coast Guard’s new Deputy Commandant for Mission Support, Vice Adm. Tom Allan, and his Command Master Chief, Michael Ingham, share upcoming priorities

New Deputy Commandant for Mission Support (DCMS) Vice Adm. Tom Allan outlines his vision for the workforce. You can read the published message here. Vice Adm. Allan highlights four key messages.  

  1. Leadership's role is to advocate for the mission support workforce, support collective resilience, and seek resources to enable the mission.  
  2. The role of the Mission Support workforce  is to anticipate the needs of customers, enable open communication, and remain transparent with the workforce. 
  3. Everyone must demonstrate adherence to the Core Values and foster a respective environment. 
  4. Lastly, Vice Adm. Allan points to innovation as an important element to generating efficiency and effectiveness. He encourages use of data, managing risk, exercising constraint, and furthering reach and collaboration by partnering to optimize workflows. 

Vice Adm. Allan wrote, “Our actions as Mission Support professionals are vital for the Coast Guard to generate sustained readiness, resilience, and capability to enhance America’s maritime safety, security, and prosperity.”  

Additionally, there is a video outlining the key points of the message and introducing the workforce to the Mission Support leadership.
