Developers, your software app could improve technical challenges Coast Guard members face regularly—like when reporting manually for pre-arrival training, or completing a PCS.
These are just two examples of what the Human Resources Information Technology (HRIT) Hack‐a‐thon aims to solve. The hack-a-thon, scheduled for October 10, is open to deck‐plate developers using small-scale or low-code technologies to solve one of three issues selected from the original 30 Ideas@Work submissions.
Interested individuals should observe these additional deadlines and select your development team by June 25. Submit a written overview of your app solution and how it positively impacts the Service by August 25.
Select one of these three areas for your app to address:
- Application for Automating Bonus Applications Lifecycle
- Coast Guard Education and Training Quota Management Command (ETQC)
- Permanent Change of Station (PCS) Reporting Documentation (formerly TDY Travel Authorization): To simplify the paperwork associated with the official assignment, detail, or transfer of a service member or unit to a new duty station
“The hack-a-thon provides an extraordinary opportunity to increase the productivity of individuals, teams, and commands through an internal means,” said Capt. Vince Skwarek, HRIT System Integration advisor. “Allowing workforce members to participate in strategizing ways to better carry out their duties and achieve missions promotes buy-in and ownership of our success.”
Everyone is welcome to participate, and a panel of experts will select the best solutions and present them to Senior Leaders at a Live Teams Hack‐a‐thon Event in October. The panel prefers an application demonstration but will consider conceptual solutions.
