One small steel beam, one giant step for the Coast Guard!

By AJ Pulkkinen, MyCG writer

The National Coast Guard Museum celebrated this 235th Coast Guard Day by raising the first steel beam! On August 4, construction crews placed the beams in fresh concrete, cementing a milestone on the path to our long-awaited museum. After years of planning, waiting, and anticipation, the very first steel beams are up – marking the moment the museum project officially went vertical.

From concept to foundation and now rising into the skyline of New London, CT, this achievement brings us one step closer to opening the doors to YOUR National Coast Guard Museum.

When complete, the National Coast Guard Museum will be 80,000 square feet, with 38,168 square feet of exhibit space, spread over five decks. The Museum will engage and educate the public through more than 5,000 images and 600 objects, interactive and immersive experiences, as well as educational programs utilizing STEM, civics and art, both in person at its physical location and online through its website and virtual exhibits.

The Museum supports Coast Guard missions by celebrating our members and their accomplishments of the past and present and guides us forward into the future as we transform our Service through Force Design 2028.

Check out the National Coast Guard Museum site to learn more and follow them on Facebook to see the construction progress.
