The Workplace Experiences Survey of Military Members (WESM) is an invaluable opportunity for Coast Guard military members to share their experiences and contribute to meaningful change. This biennial, congressionally mandated survey is a key tool for assessing the prevalence of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, and unwanted sexual contact across the U.S. Military.
Exclusive opportunity
Participation in the WESM is by invitation only, meaning not all Coast Guard members will have the opportunity to take part. If you receive an invitation, it’s because your input is uniquely valuable to this effort.
If you are invited to take the survey, seize this opportunity to make a difference. Your experiences and perspectives are vital to ensuring the Coast Guard continues to foster a culture of dignity, respect, and accountability. Remember, your responses are confidential, and your participation is essential.
As one of the few chosen to complete the WESM, your voice carries significant weight. Your feedback will directly inform senior leaders, policymakers, and Congress on the progress being made to prevent and address sex discrimination, sexual harassment, and unwanted sexual contact in the military. By participating, you are representing your fellow Service members and helping to drive meaningful change.
Survey details
We understand that sharing personal experiences can be sensitive. That’s why the WESM is completely confidential. Your responses will not be linked to your identity, and the data is reported in aggregate to ensure anonymity. This confidentiality allows you to provide honest and candid feedback without fear of reprisal.
The WESM is administered by the Department of War’s Office of People Analytics (OPA) – the same office that runs the DEOCS and other surveys. Your WESM invitation, emailed from wgr-survey@mail.mil will have your personal Ticket Number. If you may have missed the email, no worries: go to OPA Survey Portal and press ‘Click Here’ under ‘Don’t have a Ticket Number?’ You may also be directed to the WESM after taking another OPA survey.
To make participation as easy as possible, the WESM can be completed off-network. Whether you’re at home, on duty, or in the field, you can access the survey at your convenience. If you are selected to participate, this flexibility ensures that you can, regardless of your location or schedule.
Be a Catalyst for Change
Your voice is essential in shaping the future of our Service. The data collected through the WESM is frequently referenced by senior leaders to support policy and program improvements. By participating, you are contributing to efforts that enhance the safety, respect, and professionalism of our military community. Take this opportunity to share your experiences and help drive positive change within the Coast Guard and the broader military. Together, we can continue to build a culture of dignity and respect for all.
How to Participate
Be on the lookout for an invitation to complete the WESM. Remember, your input is confidential, and your participation is vital. Let your voice be heard—because your experiences matter.
