Coast Guard Men and Women,
Coast Guard members represent our service at all times, regardless of duty status, uniform, or communication channel. The recent increase in social media activity promoting political violence demands that we reinforce our commitment to the Coast Guard's core values and expected standards of conduct.
Let me be clear: the Coast Guard has zero tolerance for behavior that condones or promotes violence, mocks victims, reflects contempt for Coast Guard military or civilian leadership, or violates our core values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty. Such conduct erodes public trust, undermines our service, and tarnishes the reputation of the countless members who faithfully uphold the highest standards every day.
We firmly condemn any expression that appears to celebrate or condone violence or express satisfaction in the death of another. Unacceptable behavior includes, but is not limited to:
- Celebrating or approving of the death of any individual.
- Mocking or disparaging victims of violence.
- Condoning or justifying violence against any group or individual.
- Sharing or amplifying content that promotes violence or hatred.
There is no place for unprofessional or disrespectful conduct within the Coast Guard. Coast Guard personnel who perpetuate political violence - violating laws, regulations, or policies - will face administrative or disciplinary action, or action under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) and applicable civilian laws or regulations.
Coast Guard leaders at all levels shall investigate, and where the facts support, hold accountable those who commit online misconduct, including actions that violate our core values, regardless of forum.
