Say goodbye to CGBI, hello to Navigator

By AJ Pulkkinen, MyCG writer

The Coast Guard is upgrading its Business Intelligence tools. Learn how the new tool, called Navigator, better supports mission readiness and decision-making. Here’s what you need to know before CGBI transitions to Navigator this Friday, Nov. 21.

What is Navigator?

Navigator is a new data visualization tool designed to make it easier for Coast Guard members to access and use important information. Instead of the outdated CGBI system (which goes offline in November), Navigator offers interactive dashboards, charts, graphs, and tables that are organized around domains, use cases, and missions. This means you’ll be able to find the data you need faster and in a way that’s easier to understand.

You can find Navigator now on the Pixel Links page. And check out the CGBI Transformation Portal to learn more.

Why Should You Care?

If you’ve relied on CGBI for personnel readiness, operations data, or other reports, Navigator will provide a more intuitive and user-friendly experience. It’s built to help you make better decisions and improve mission readiness. Navigator already has tools you’ve used in CGBI, like

  • Employee Summary Sheet (ESS),
  • Competency Dictionary,
  • Master Training List, and
  • Active Duty Enlisted Force Composition Dashboard.

Plus, new tools and features are being added to make your work more efficient, including:

  • Cuttermen Dashboard: Visualizations of sea time for the Office of Workforce Planning and Analytics
  • Master Training List: A list of required courses and training by department and position.
  • Separations Application: Enhanced filtering and access to separations data for the Enlisted Panels, Advancements, and Separations Branch of the Enlisted Personnel Management Division.

What’s Coming Next?

Leading up to the Nov. 21 cutover date, Navigator will feature continuous deployment of capabilities to include:

  • General personnel and unit readiness reports.
  • Individual medical readiness (IMR) and medical reports.
  • Personnel security (PERSEC) tools.
  • Waterways management and vessel inspection reports.

Future updates will add even more capabilities, so stay tuned for announcements.

How Will You Learn to Use Navigator?

Training resources will be provided to help you get started, including demonstration videos and guides. You can also visit the Data, Analytics, and Artificial Intelligence (DAAI) Media Hub for more information about domain data teams and Navigator’s features.

Where Can You Go for Updates and Help?

  • CGBI Transformation Portal: Stay up-to-date on the latest news and guidance.
  • FAQs and Glossary: Resources to answer common questions and clarify terms.
  • Contact Points: Send your questions to the project team

This upgrade is designed to make your work easier and more effective. While change can bring questions, the Coast Guard is committed to supporting you through the transition. Navigator is an exciting step forward in improving how we access and use data to support our missions.
