Smart financial choices for a stress-free holiday season

By Zach Shapiro, MyCG Staff

The holiday season is a time for celebration, but it can also bring financial stress. To help Coast Guard members, reservists, auxiliarists, and their families make smart financial decisions, we’ve compiled practical tips from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Department of Homeland Security, and the Office of Financial Readiness (FINRED).

From creating and sticking to a budget for gifts and travel to teaching your children about good financial habits, these resources outline concrete steps that we all can take.

The Coast Guard’s Personal Financial Management Program (PFMP) provides access to financial resources, education, training, and counseling necessary to empower USCG personnel and their family members to meet personal financial goals, achieve financial security, and to remain mission ready. For information on these resources, please contact your nearest Personal Financial Managers (PFMs), your unit’s Command Financial Specialist (CFS), and/or Military OneSource financial staff (for military members).

Remember, enjoying the holidays doesn’t mean overspending. Thoughtful planning and smart choices can help you celebrate without financial worry. For more detailed information, check out our collection of expert articles and resources.
