The Coast Guard’s Community Services Command (CSC) is expanding its support for active-duty athletes by expanding the Morale, Wellness, and Recreation (MWR) Sports Participation Grant Program for the 2026 non-appropriated fund (NAF) year. Funded by Coast Guard Exchange profits, this program helps service members stay active, competitive, and mission-ready.
What's New for 2026
For the upcoming NAF year, which runs from Feb. 1, 2026, to Jan. 31, 2027, the program will provide greater flexibility and increased funding. Key changes include:
- More Events: Members may now apply for grants for up to two individual sports events per year.
- Increased Reimbursement: The combined maximum reimbursement has been raised to $200, an increase from the previous $150 limit.
Eligibility and Limitations
The grant is specifically for individual competition entry fees. Due to funding constraints, the program does not cover team-related expenses, memberships, league dues, training programs, or equipment costs.
How to Apply
Active-duty members interested in participating in an organized live or virtual sporting event are encouraged to apply as soon as they find an event. There is no need to prepay registration fees before submitting an application.
All applications must be submitted using the official form by Dec. 1, 2026.
Approval and Payment Process
The CSC will review all requests. Once an application is approved, the member will receive an email notification with payment instructions. Payments are issued via Zelle and typically occur later in the year when funds become available. Applicants should ensure their financial institution is compatible with Zelle and include their account details in the application.
