Service uses your feedback to improve Coast Guard-managed housing

By AJ Pulkkinen, MyCG writer

The Coast Guard’s first ever Nationwide Housing Satisfaction Survey (NHSS), which closed on October 10, 2025, delivered the Coast Guard’s first comprehensive, enterprise-level view of housing conditions and member satisfaction across all housing types, not just government or privatized housing, filling a long-standing data gap.

Thank you to the more than 17,000 members and families who participated in the first annual Nationwide Housing Satisfaction Survey (NHSS). With a 44% response rate, you provided critical insights into the challenges and successes of our housing program.

The Coast Guard was the only service branch to share the survey with all uniformed members. This survey gives us a powerful tool to advocate on your behalf. We use this data to guide improvements to ensure your family has a safe and reliable place to call home.

"The thousands of members who completed our first-ever housing survey sent a clear message: housing is a top quality-of-life issue, and you need better ways to have your voice heard," said RDML Zeita Merchant, Assistant Commandant for Workforce Management. "We hear you! This survey is more than just a data-collection exercise; it's a direct line to our leadership as we execute Force Design (FD) 2028. Your honest feedback is the single most important tool we have to secure resources and build a housing program that truly supports our members and their families.”

Key results from the 2025 survey show the following overall satisfaction scores:

  • Owned Family Housing: 72.0
  • Owned Unaccompanied Personnel Housing: 74.3
  • Leased Family Housing: 84.3
  • Leased Unaccompanied Personnel Housing: 74.6

You can review a detailed summary of the 2025 NHSS results on the Office of Housing Management (CG-WMM-3) SharePoint site

A New Way to Share Feedback

Your responses to the 2025 survey are already shaping the future of Coast Guard housing. Based on your feedback, you no longer have to wait for the annual survey to report a problem or share a success story. We have launched the new year-round Coast Guard Housing Feedback Form, a simple online tool that allows you to submit feedback on your current housing situation at any time. You can find the feedback form on the CG-WMM-3 SharePoint site

Your ongoing input is essential as we work to improve housing across the service and support the workforce priorities of Force Design 2028. Look for the next annual Nationwide Housing Satisfaction Survey in September 2026.
