No matter what your role is at the Coast Guard, there’s an AI tool to help you get the job done. Here’s the latest on what Coast Guard members can use right now and what’s coming, as well as some recently added AI training.
If you’re new to AI, check out AI on Deck. The Office of Data and Analytics (ODA) has already released 4 parts of what’ will be an 11-part video series on AI basics. These quick lessons are based on a successful course ODA taught at Sector Miami. Each video is under five minutes and designed to bring someone new to AI up to speed in less than an hour.
What’s allowed
Currently, members of the Coast Guard can use the following AI tools:
GenAI.mil (Gemini): Your research powerhouse
If you need to dig deep into a topic or draft a complex report, then this Department of War (DoW) tool is your go-to. Built for secure research and analysis, GenAI.mil lets you combine public internet information with your own internal documents. Plus, its new “Agent Designer” feature means you can create custom AI agents to automate tasks, even if you’re not a coder. It also offers image generation. More features (like API access, ChatGPT, and more) roll out consistently, so stay tuned! Here’s an Office of Data and Analytics demo of what you can do with GenAI. (CAC required.)
DHSChat: The secure collaborator
Working with sensitive info like PII, law enforcement data, or security details? DHSChat is the tool for you. It’s designed for secure document summarizing, drafting, and collaboration. You can even set up workspaces for your team to upload and reference documents together. If your task involves sensitive data, DHSChat is the mandatory, and safest, choice.
CoPilot Chat: Your Teams sidekick
If you live in Microsoft Teams, CoPilot Chat is a productivity booster. It can summarize meetings, draft emails, and help brainstorm ideas. All without leaving Teams. It’s perfect for routine, unclassified tasks and keeps your workflow seamless.
