LCDR Edward “Iceberg” Smith's work during the 1931 Graf Zeppelin Arctic Expedition was a key influence in the modernization of iceberg surveillance.

The first group of Coast Guard members graduated from the Navy Robotics Warfare School at Carnegie Mellon University, which will serve as the initial A-School for the new Robotics Mission Specialist (RMS) rate in Sept. 2025.
