Station Grand Isle and Sector LA-Long Beach spouses honored for supporting Coast Guard families

The Coast Guard recognizes two hardworking volunteers as the Coast Guard’s Wanda Allen-Yearout Ombudsman of the Year Award for 2019. Dahna Simmons and Jenna Hall distinguished themselves out of the service’s 350 ombudsman throughout the service, going above and beyond assisting fellow spouses and families during the past year. This award recognizes their outstanding contributions during a difficult 2019 as our Coast Guard families navigated an unprecedented combination of natural disasters, financial uncertainty during the government shutdown, deployments, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Command leadership can now use the Agile Workforce Guide

The Coast Guard released the updated COVID-19 Agile Workforce Guide this week to provide commanding officers and managers with a common framework that can help protect the workforce while ensuring mission readiness. The purpose of the guide is to help assess risk and tailor mitigation measures in a safe, controlled, and thoughtful way.

Wellness Wednesday: National Suicide Prevention Month

As we prepare for National Suicide Prevention Awareness month in September, and given the extraordinary strain the COVID-19 pandemic puts on all facets of our life, we all have a responsibility to show genuine concern for others As Cmdr. Sarah Garrett puts it, "good shipmates buoy each other in times of distress, ashore or afloat, on duty or off duty." Please join Cmdr. Promotions: Captains selected for rear admiral, lower half

Seven Coast Guard captains have been selected for the rank of rear admiral, lower half, for promotion year 2021.
Each admiral select received a congratulatory phone call from Coast Guard Commandant Adm.  Karl Schultz prior to the message being released on Aug. 3.

The Coast Guard’s Captain Selection Board convened July 6, 2020, and recommended 89 members to promote to the rank of captain during promotion year 2021. Officers selected are listed below in active duty promotion list precedence (ADPL) order. Congratulations to all who have been selected for promotion.
