There is still time to nominate your unit’s game-changing spouse for Coast Guard Spouse of the Year. Finalists will soon be selected within the 2023 Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year (AFI MSOY) competition.

Nominees will first be chosen for their service and then will compete for the ultimate title of overall Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year. Nominations close Jan. 27 and can be made by members and civilians.

“I’m so thankful for the opportunities the Military Spouse of The Year program gave me. It’s incredibly important to honor our spouses, and this program truly does that,” said Abbi McCraken, 2022 Coast Guard Spouse of the Year.

The AFI MSOY award was founded in 2008 to honor military spouses from all branches of service. The AFI MSOY award recognizes military spouses’ important contributions and unwavering commitment to the military community and our country. There are four rounds of advancement for the ultimate honor beginning with awarding winners at the base level for each service and then at the service/ branch level. Notably, base winners will be announced Feb. 14 and branch winners will be announced March 6. The process culminates with the announcement of the overall AFI MSOY in our nation’s capital in early May.

“Military spouses are strong and resilient, with so many ideas that can drive change.” McCracken said. “Giving them a platform to voice those ideas and bond with others from different backgrounds gives us a chance to make connections that may not have been possible otherwise,” McCracken added, stressing the importance of the award for Coast Guard families and the military community at-large.
