Officers: Join OPM1 for a discussion about promotions and post-graduate school

By Kyle Ford, MyCG Writer

The Officer Personnel Management’s (OPM), Career Management Branch (OPM-4) hosts its third virtual road show March 15, at 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. This time the Boards, Promotions, and Separations Branch (OPM-1) will focus the conversation on promotions and post-graduate panels.

OPM-1 governs all processes related to promoting officers within the Coast Guard. These include requests for extended active duty by reserve officers, oaths of office for active duty officers, officer integration, interservice transfer requests, the register of officers, the officer promotion authorization list (OPAL), developing candidate pools for officer promotion boards, chief warrant officer (CWO) and officer nomination appointments, as well as medical waivers.

The office is also in charge of selection and appointment boards. These include postgraduate and advanced education selection boards, which held predominantly from July 1 through Nov. 1 in a calendar year. These panels consider individuals for selection to Coast Guard sponsored postgraduate and advanced education opportunities.

Emailing OPM-4 for session access is no longer required. You can join via Teams on the day of the event. After every roadshow, the next event link will be posted on our OPM-4 (sharepoint-mil.us) SharePoint page. Please email the Career Management Branch (OPM-4) with any additional questions.

As a reminder and to promote unit discussions, officers in the same command are encouraged to attend roadshows from consolidated locations.
