The Long Blue Line: Last of the Coast Guard fishing fleet— Hurricane San Calixto and the loss of EM Dow

During World War I and World War II, the Menhaden fishing fleet became a ready reserve for the Navy and Coast Guard.

The crew of the Coast Guard Joseph Tezanos offloads nearly $15 million in cocaine and transfers custody of two suspected smugglers at Coast Guard Base San Juan July 12, 2021. Cutter Joseph Tezanos, with the assistance of a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Air and Marine Operations (AMO) Multi-Role Enforcement Aircraft (MEA) aircraft, interdicted a go-fast vessel in Mona Passage waters July 10, 2021, which resulted in the apprehension of the smugglers and seizure of 502 kilograms of cocaine. The funding decision supports restoration activities spanning the Gulf Coast states impacted by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill

Ensign Kathleen Spotz, stationed at Sector Northern New England in South Portland, Maine, was named the 2020 Coast Guard Female Athlete of the year in recognition of her superior performance as a runner. Recently, Spotz ran across the entire state of Maine in just over 30 hours—becoming the first person ever to do so!
