LTJG Tom Slattery ran the NYC Marathon for the Coast Guard on Nov. 5, 2023, placing 20th. Slattery, a premiere long-distance runner and two-time U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier, was recently named the 2024 Coast Guard Elite Male Athlete of the Year.

He initially advanced to coxswain designation, but later became a Boatswain’s Mate First Class. Ultimately, he was designated Chief Specialist in athletics.
