The Long Blue line: “Lucky Ox”—surviving the killing fields of D-Day

Operation “Overlord” led to the defeat of Nazi Germany and end of the Second World War in Europe. "Lucky Ox" being one of the Coast Guard heroes of the operation.

Ensign Kathleen Spotz, stationed at Sector Northern New England in South Portland, Maine, was named the 2020 Coast Guard Female Athlete of the year in recognition of her superior performance as a runner. Recently, Spotz ran across the entire state of Maine in just over 30 hours—becoming the first person ever to do so!

Charles Moulthrope and Robert Goldman are en route to their new homeport in Bahrain in support of the Navy’s U.S. Fifth Fleet and U.S. Coast Guard Patrol Forces Southwest Asia. While in the U.S. Navy’s Sixth Fleet area of responsibility, the crews will support engagements with partner countries strengthening relationships and demonstrating our continued commitment to global maritime security and stability. A major step forward was taken in replacing the service’s aging river buoy and inland construction tenders; Congratulations to all members and civilian employees on their accomplishments!

First Class Cadet Josiah Davis, a native of Saline, Michigan, has been awarded one year of graduate school at Florida A&M to complete at the NCAA Division I level for track and field before reporting to his five-year military commitment for the U.S. Coast Guard. Davis is a three-time All-American for the Coast Guard Academy and national champion in the distance medley relay at Saline High School and a two-time national qualifier in the 400 hurdles. The Long Blue Line: Ship of heroes—Seneca’s history-making rescue of World War I

Lt. Brown and the gallant volunteers set an example worthy of the highest traditions of any Service or any Nation.

This 20,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility will boast a contemporary design by the architectural firm SmithGroup that is expressive of sleek hull shapes, vessels under full sail, and wooden hulls. Its curvilinear vaulted roof, wooden decks, and true north orientation aim to harmonize with the waterfront landscape to create awe-inspiring spaces unlike any other at the Academy.
