The Respect and Inclusion Summer Experience, or RISE, is an Academy program aimed at making sure incoming cadets start their Coast Guard career on the right foot. RISE kicks off days before the official start of Swab Summer, giving future swabs and their families time to meet other swabs, become familiar with the Academy grounds, and to see the area surrounding the campus. The Class of 2025 arrives at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy 

Cmdr. Merle J. Smith, Jr. was the second African American to receive an appointment to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and the first to graduate. Smith served as a role model for countless cadets, faculty, and staff at the Coast Guard Academy.

Participate in the 2021 Feds Feed Families Campaign, and congratulations to Coast Guard award winners!

First Class Cadet Josiah Davis, a native of Saline, Michigan, has been awarded one year of graduate school at Florida A&M to complete at the NCAA Division I level for track and field before reporting to his five-year military commitment for the U.S. Coast Guard. Davis is a three-time All-American for the Coast Guard Academy and national champion in the distance medley relay at Saline High School and a two-time national qualifier in the 400 hurdles.
