The first to ship to deliver reindeer to Alaska, first to journey into the Arctic in winter, and first to chart parts of the Bering Sea are just a few of the achievements that make Coast Guard Cutter Bear a key piece of Coast Guard history.

Northwest Passage—Coast Guardsmen the first Americans to break the ice!

After centuries of failed attempts that saw many explorers vanish, it was a trio of U.S. Coast Guard cutters that finally conquered the long-sought Northwest Passage.
