Portrait of William Tatham in 1779. Tatham was a contemporary and frequent correspondent of the president. He was universally acknowledged as brilliant, but could be abrasive and arrogant. He quickly alienated the other two commissioners, Jonathan Price and William Coles, working on the 1806 survey. They ended up submitting separate reports, and only Coles and Price produced the chart. Congratulations to the Coast Guard's Secretary's Award recipients.

The commissioning crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Clarence Sutphin Jr., Patrol Forces Southwest Asia's sixth 154-foot Sentinel-class cutter, stand at attention as the ship is placed into service at a ceremony held at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in New York City, April 21, 2022. The cutter's namesake is Boatswain's Mate 1st Class Clarence Sutphin Jr., a New York native who served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1941 to 1945.
